Call phones in other countries?

I have t-mobil ( to be spacific sidekick 3 ) and im moving to Italy can i just call and change my area code and whatever, or do i have to buy a new phone in italy?

You can keep the same phone but you'll need to switch out your SIM card for a SIM from an Italian cell phone provider.
