why fortunate people should be thankful?

What if global warming as a result of burning fossil fuels was a truth? Oil companies had record profits as a result of the devastation of Katrina. Wouldn't it be something if the fossil fuel burning, and possible consequent global warming intensified the hurricane to such an extent that it did what it did.
