Social Security should end. It is morally offensive to force people who are free to pay into a system that is as bad as this.

If SS were a private corporation, the corporate officers would be in jail.

It is the responsibility of the individual to have enough insurance and retirement planning for them selves.

There is no fix,it's basically been a Ponzi Scheme from it's inception. For my age bracket they have raised my availability age to 72 thus adding another 7 working years before being eligible.I'm 60 now and have been paying in for over 40 years.By the time I hit 70 I expect them to tell me I'll be eligible at the age of 78.Basically they are going to keep raising the age limits till we all die off before collecting. The gov't has been using SSI as a 'slush' fund, like free money for way too long. They now are robbing Peter to pay Paul (we are the Peters, the Cheney types are the Paul's).

I don't have any brilliant ideas but I suspect in order to save it there must be some reasonable discussion about indexing benefits based on income. I also think that withholding also should be indexed based on income so that the more you make the more you pay. I think the age upon which we receive benefits should be raised, unless a person has a legitimate disabilty.

I think we also need to do something to make sure we have a more highly skilled workforce to pay into and support the benefits of those currently collecting.

Privatize. By transferring responsibility from the public to private sector, you initiate profit gain. Private business will jump on the social security bandwagon because there is money to be made. Just look at the pharmaceutical market.

There is only one answer but is the answer no one likes. We just need to increase the social security tax and if no one likes that, then we should just abolish social security and let people save for their own retirement. It is not like social security was ever enough to live off of.

Balance the budget and stop spending from the social security trust.

Very simple.

And what would I cut? The regulated shipping of Americans off to their deaths and emotional torture - I mean, the "War on Terror".
