Perfectly good comedies and/or action movies never get Oscar nominated for anything, not even special effects? Pirates of the Caribbean 1 and 2 should have nominated at the very least!

They look for movies with meaning and quality. Mainstream movies are there for brainless people who just want to see pictures with sound without having to think for 2 hours. Therefore over looked.

Pirates 1 and 2 DID get visual and sound Acadamy Award nominations.
Also the Acadamey tends to prefer drama/serious movies, as they do tend to be higher overall quality. Little Miss Sunshine recieved a best movie nod this year, and that is a hilarious comedy, b/c it is a smart and orignial comedy with quality acting and plot.

i think the reason is that they award less to comedies because the are looking for movies that achieve something in cinema and have been the best.... unfortunatly i think they over look comedies more often because they are seen as less important and also most of the time not as solid as other films.... pirates was a good movie but there were others out there this year that were far better as well as better special effects tho they were good....

The Academy tends to seek movies that display the highest quality in all areas. I think they did well acknowledging Little Miss Sunshine, The Devil Wears Prada, and Dreamgirls. In the past Pirates (the first one) did receive nom's.

I agree. Some movies that are nominated in my opinion do not deserve it.
