She seems just fine, except the temperate in the cage and out, has been alittle uneven. From more to hot, because of this weird winter we are having, here in Upstate , NY. So I noticed that I can't keep the temp at her normal which is 84 degrees. She is a leopard geko, and she is pretty much full grown. How long do these animals live? She keeps on going to the cooler side of the tank, which is 73 degrees. But she is always on top of the heating rock or near. My bulb I just bought during the summer, so it's not that old. Can some one point me in the right direction?

I understand, why you would think that the rock is harmful but, the rock is at one end, and the lamp is at the other end. It is I think a fish tank to begin with, and it's a 20 gallon tank I got for $15, So I took it.

Most Geckos live between 75-85 degrees. If your gecko keeps moving in the tank it may just be too warm. You probably only need either the light or the heat rock. Although, you shouldn't be using a heat rock because it can shock (and possibly kill your gecko). It is better to have an under tank heater, which is also slightly cooler than a heat rock. Just be sure that the cooler side of the tank is between 70 and 75 and that their is plenty of water for her to drink/

I raise and breed leopard geckos. I have a female that is 17 years old. My dad bought her for me when I was a kid. They have been known to live for up to 30 years or so if cared for properly. Firt off heat rock are a big no no. They are harmful to the gecko. They can lay on the rock and badly burn them selves. TAKE OUT THE HEAT ROCK!!!! i wouldn't worry to much about the not being able to keep a constand temperature, Mine on get a heat lamp at night. I turn it off during the day and they do just fine. The only ones that get a constant lamp are the eggs and babies until they are one month old.

They live over 15 years. Best to get rid of the heat rock, they can burn the lizard. Settle with a UT heater, my Leo Gecko thrives with those, and they are easier to create a thermal gradient. Most likely she isn;t sick. If she isn;t eating or anything, it could have something to do with the temp.
