Muslim is a person of the Islamic faith.

Arab is an ethnicity.

It's like asking what's the difference between a Catholic and an Irishman.

There are no violent sect of Muslims or any other religion. Arabs are Muslims that live in Arabia and were Arabs before they were Muslims. Muslim is a word for the people of Islam; Muslim means "One who submits to God". Though there are many different definations for the word Arab. Note that it is important to distinguish from Arab and Muslim. They aren't one in the same.

You know as well as I do that Arab is an ethnicity and Islam (Muslim) refers to a religion. An Arab can have any religion, and a person of any ethnicity can be a Muslim.
The majority of Arabs happen to be Muslims, but this is also true of the majority of Persians and the majority of Turks and the majority of Pakistanis and the majority of Bangladeshis....

"Arab" refers to those of a specific ethnic and cultural heritage--primarily having its roots on the Arabian peninsula. "Muslim" refers to someone who is a follower of Islam (the religion, not the extremist groups who sue the name to try to legitimate themselves). There are--and have been--Muslims in many countries--including about 7 million in the United States. The majority of Arabs are muslim--but there are also arab Christians and Jews. Muslims predominate not just in the Mideast region but in north and east Africa, the rest of the middle east in addition to the Arabian peninsula, Afghanistan--and the countries north of their that were part of the old Soviet Union; Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Indonesia--though there are signifigant populations in some other countries as well.

Arabs are people from Arabia, but the word is also used of anyone who speaks Arabic, which would include most of North Africa, and also Iraq.

Muslim is the religion of most of these people, although there are plenty of Christian Arabs as well.
