When they were recording the song, the lead singer was drunk and "In the Garden of Eden", was slurred out as "Inna Gadda Da Vida". The band thought this added more "mystique" to the song, and therefore Inna Gadda Da Vida became the title. In the garden of eden never got a look in. True Story.

Something about the band being drunk and when they were screwing around someone said "In the Garden of Eden" and came out with "In A Gadda Da Vida." And so, that became the title of the song.

As I understand it, this song is a running "420"-esque inside understanding among those that use LSD a little more frequently then is safe (p.c.= as in, they are using it). Kind of like how Pink Floyd laserlight shows unite the users of LSD, "daytrippers" (especially during the late 70's/early 80's) would put the song on while they halucinated on the drug. Supposedly, when you are in the same "frame of mind" that the person singing was in at the time of it's recording, you will hear the words as they would have been sung sober. It goes with the whole "altered consiousness" counter-culture. It was suggested to me that this is proof that when tripping on LSD, you are not simply halucinating alone, you are actually seeing the world in a new and different way that can be shared in a real way (much like conventional reality is shared by all those who are sober).

I do not imply, suggest, sponsor, or insinuate in any way to anyone to try this to find out if it is true. LSD is an illegal drug and drugs are bad, m'kay?

That's all I know about the song and why it is called that.

some element about the band being less than the effect of alcohol or possibly as they were screwing round someone reported "interior the outdoor of Eden" and were given the following out with "In A Gadda Da Vida." And so, that grew to grow to be the p.c. out of the music.

From what I remember of the story, the lead singer was drunk after a show and started writing the song and someone else came in and asked him what he was writing and he kept slurring the words together so they decided to leave the title as that.

that's a theory. no one knows for sure. another thought is that it's actually a mispronunciation of Bhagavad Gita. check out this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida

Hahah!
They made that joke in The Simpsons!
They were all in church and they gave the music to the old organist lady and they sang "in the garden of eden baby..." forever!

Wow, I did not know that and that is one of my favorite songs. I like Slayer's rendition too. Thanks for the info.

Have you heard that new rap song "Hip Hop is Dead"? It has the same sound to it. Kind of made me mad actually considering the song is gay.
