How about prevailing wind patterns west to east. Acid gases transport from up-wind to down-wind.
Industrial sources like smelting plants, power plants and vehicle emissions generate acid gases. These are the same gasses pull out of the air by precipitation. And last time I checked there are more of these types of sources in eastern Canada than in Western Canada.
Third how about topography? Where western Canada is quite mountainous, and water tends to run off relatively quickly. Generally the acid cannot accumulate. Eastern Canada is more flat. Water is more likely to pool and evaporate rather than run off. Over time the acids do not evaporate and can concentrate.
As far as tourists are concerned, well some of them bring their sour dispositions with them on vacation. This can only exacerbate the acid rain, right?
