I'll put it to you like this... the MEDIAN income per in individual in the U.S. is around $24,000, last time I checked the census...

that means that 50 percent of Americans make below that, according to the census...

that's a pretty good indication of poverty in America if you ask me...

I would be one of those statistics. I've been trying to get a real job for 4 years now and I'm depressed, totally. All I've managed to achieve after a college education is a PT job doing commercial cleaning. 14 hours a week at $ 9.00 an hour barely does anything. But I can say one thing for myself...I don't suck off the system.

It's sad but who should be taking responsibility for it? First and foremost those individuals should be making attempts to find a job (as LEAHANNA is doing-you go girl!!!) instead of waiting for a check in the mail from the gov't. There should be gov't subsidy available, but not to the extent it exists now. Many of those living below that poverty line need to be more motivated.

I think G is correct. Wouldn't you love to hear Bush address
this issue in one of his speeches?
For example, Exxon has made a $39 billion profit - so why
are their gas station attendants making $6.50/hr.?
That is the problem.

And that's whose fault? I say theirs. Then I'd say even living in poverty they have it far better than 9/10th of the world. Did you know poverty here is having less than 2 TV's or A/C in only one room??? Most people are to blame for there situation. Period.
