Her friend's guinea pig came over for a play date. The question I have is all the information on the internet says that she is at risk. How do I know if she is pregnant. Also the internet says that she might require a C section how would I know that. The last question I have is the internet also said I should find a vet that does this. I live in Cleveland Ohio area.

Your guinea pig should not need a C section unless there is health problems.

Your guinea mom should know what to do. Just provide lots of bedding and keep the cage in a quiet area.

When she gives birth, if there is any still borns, remove them right away or she will eat them . gross i know.

Do not handle the babies for a few weeks. If they smell different she may reject them

Lots of guinea pigs do have certain risks - but my guinea pig birthed just fine on her own. Guinea Pigs are fairly hard to figure out if their preggie until around a week before they give birth. Before then there is very little difference. Just before she gives birth feel her pelvic bones. Mesaure (using judgement) how fair apar they are every 2 hours or so. If they seem to be getting further apart then ur gonna have piglets :) A sure way to find out if she is pregnant is to take her to the vet. Those are wonderful things :) He can find out for you. Do NOT EVER EVER poke around in her stomach to see if there are babies. THIS WILL HURT THEM!!!! You can gently feel by kind of "patting". Have your vet be like a gaurdian in case she does need a c-sectioin. Around the time of estimated birth it's good to have a vet in the house. He can answer any other questions. Plus - if your guinea pig is over approx 18 months she will have major trouble giving birth as her hip bones have fused together. To find a vet use the yellow pages or the internet.

If she has come into contact with a male guinea pig then chances are she is indeed pregnant. If you look on the internet under the word "cavy" instead of guinea pig you will probably find much more information on the subject. Average gestation period for a cavy is 68 days. She should start showing very soon if she is pregnant. Keep in mind that the babies will be born with all of their hair and their eyes open. Hope this helps.

You need to take her to a vet and have her checked out about it.Females Not bred under 7 months of age Usally result in having to have a C-section,or her and the babies could die.So I would call a local vet that will do surgerys, and medical care for small rodents. As well I recommend don't let your guinea pig play with any males,or get her spayed.I hope I helped bunches.

Guinealynx.com has a ton of info and I think they have vet listings too. Going to the vet is the best option. I had a female guinea pig die after giving birth because I was not informed on the dangers. Best of luck!

God a number of you posters are jerks. 'permit the canines get them!' yea, why do not you permit the canines get human beings simply by fact there are too many to? what sort of sickos are you? besides, my guinea pig had infants too, and that i be attentive to how that is going. we had a female and male and positioned a cage divider between them even nevertheless it did not flow all a thank you to the precise and we could only say guinea pigs can leap... hehe. My advice is to seperate the adult males from women individuals, and consistent with probability provide countless the youngsters (considering which you have not grown linked) to those who choose them? i've got chanced on that guinea pigs that are born in residences are friendlier. solid success!
