My dvdwriter was dead, it could just open and close, but no spinning of the cd/dvd inside and so no data.

So I plugged a new dvd-writer and configured it correcly into the bios.
This new dvd writer can read the TOC of the cd/dvd so I can see the data on the disc, but when it try to copy/open a file it just give me a I/O error. i/O is obtained even with Nero test, or Easy cd Creator drive test mode.

So I was wondering that maybe my secondary IDE channel of my MB is fried somehow.

Someone had the same problem ? Could you think about any test I can do ?

Hook it upto your primary IDE channel, and see if it does the same thing, if it does, it may just be bad HDcontroller drivers. Anytime you buy a piece of hardware, download the latest drivers, and firmware updates.
