Well I believe I brought this up in a previous answer I gave you, so now let me tell you why the P965 is better. The 975X was released back in November of 2005, well before the Core 2 Duos. Because of this it only has sort of patched support for the Core 2 Duo. The P965 was released in June of 2006 right along with the Core 2 Duo, and was designed specifically to work with the Core 2 Duo. The 975X is more expensive because it is an "extreme" chipset, however there is nothing it really does that a P965 can't do, hence its not really worth paying the extra money.

the p975 is the better chipset. all the newer boards should fully support core 2 duo and it generally performs better. it also tends to overclock better. the p975 offers crossfire dual-graphics card support, the p965 does not. In addition, the p965 has had some bios and stability issues and it doesn't have any native ide ports (most optical drive are still ide). this has forced board manufacturers to add an ide port, which has led to some of the aforementioned bios and stability problems (oddly enough the intel website claims the p965 does have a native ide port). the main drawback is that they are somewhat more expensive.
