I haven't kept up with it in a long time, so I don't know what the current spin (or rejection of spin) is our nation building in the Middle East. Have they finally admitted that if walks like a duck, talks like a duck, then it's a duck?

"Nation building" is the evangelizing of the political class. One good thing about religious evangelizing is generally the financiers are participating voluntarily.
When was the last time terrorists hit the Swiss? Never. Why? They haven't been engaged in meddlesome foreign policy for the last century. There's a strong probability that 9/11 (or similar) would've never happened if the USA hadn't pursued bipartisan foreign meddling for decades. Various administrations have cumulatively made us a target.
If you think this round of meddling & nation building will have different results, you're a poor student of history & naive. We aren't making friends. Historically we have a trend of arming our future enemies.
Minding your own business & being "isolationist" are 2 very different things. But if the American ~government~ doesn't get involved in foreign affairs, there's nothing stopping the individual from being non-"isolationist" with his ~own~ life. Minding your own biz starts at home.

Praise Thomas Jefferson for admonishing us not to be doing the very things we are doing right now, in his second inaugural address ...
Jefferson, if you remember, is one of the very founders of this country. Dubya is one of the destroyers of that creation. But Dubya is merely one in a long line of bipartisan, big government minded fools that have been working to un-build the USA before the ink was even dry on the Constitution.
