I have an answer that fits if they add up to -20. There is no whole number answer to that question... sorry babe!

+8 x -28 = -224
+8 + -28 = -20

Hope that helps a little, best of luck!

We have these two equations:

X * Y = -224
X + Y = -21, or X = -21 - Y
So Y (-21 - Y) = -224 or -21Y - y^2 = -224 or y^2 + 21Y - 224 = 0.

There are no whole numbers that meet this criteria. Did you copy down the answer correctly? The closest I can come to it is
(Y + 28)(Y - 7), which is actually y^2 + 21Y - 196 = 0.
This gives us answer pairs of (-28, 7) and (-7, 28).

There is no whole number solution to this equation, perhaps it was written incorrectly. This is the closest you can get:
-28 x 8 = -224
&
-28 + 8 = -20

the algebraic equation is then x^2+21x-224=0. You could graph it and find the intercepts to find out the answers.
