Some people may have found it offensive because it gave the representation and the implication that gaypeople are not "manly", whatever that means. I hope that made sense. But, to be honest, no one shouldn't really care about the ad at all, especially the gay groups that are complaining about the ad. Most gay groups, including the ones that were bothered by the Snicker's Super Bowl ad, are more hypocritical, fake, and two-faced than heterosexuals. The ad simply depicted how stupid straight guys can really be, and we're getting a sh**load of that reality right here in this section of Yahoo! Answers.

The gay group GLAAD did NOT complain about the Snickers Super Bowl Ad.
The gay group GLAAD DID complain about the Snickers online ad with an alternate ending where the two guys who kissed started beating the other guy because they thought the other guy was gay.
Snickers decided to pull ALL of the ads, probably to generate more publicity.

It wasn't the kiss that was offensive. Did you read the articles about this or did you just read the headline?? There's SOOOO much more to the story!!!
First of all there was more than one commercial. One aired on TV during the Superbowl. The other ones were on their website. The one on TV had two straight guys freak out after accidentally kissing and then ripping out some chest hair in order to cancel out the kiss. That was funny! And yes the commercial poked fun at homophobia, but it was not homophobic.
The part people were upset about was that on the website there were clips of NFL players acting all disgusted at the fact that two men kissed. Having such high-profile sports figures... people who kids and adults look up to... show that much disgust perpetuates homophobia. Is says "See? You can't be gay and be acceptedl. At least not by us!" Now I would complain about a clip like that, too!!
The commercial on the website that had people up at arms had the same first half, but then in the second half voters could vote on one of four alternate endings, including one entitled "wrench." In that one, one guy bashes the other one's head in with a wrench and then the other guy smashes the hood of the car down on the first guy's head. The winning ending was going to be aired during the Daytona 500.
THAT was the part that upset the organizations that complained. Beating the s*** out of someone because of a kiss is homophobic. It encourages violence against others for anything that is even remotely associated with homosexuality. There are so many people who have had the crap beat out of them just because they didn't hide who they are. Are we supposed to celebrate that violence on the web, air it at the Daytona 500, and send that message to all of America that it's okay to beat the crap out of someone, as long as you're doing it because you don't want people to think you're gay???
Seriously people. There's a big difference between ripping out a little of your own chest hair, and bashing someone's skull in with a wrench. And it was completely unnecessary to have clips of NFL players making disgusted faces about the kiss.

I guess I'm not the normal gay guy because I laughed so hard I was crying. I thought it was over the top jocular. I didn't view it as disparaging in the least. In fact, I thought it made fun of uptight straight rednecks, and in real life I'm friends with a few. Guys I grew up with and wouldn't rip their hair off their chests but would make faces and joke it they did it. You know, get embarassed and stuff, I'm fine with that. I disapprove of being too politicaly correct because I think it takes away from freedom of speach. In fact, I was actually thinking of contacting the Snickers people and asking them if I could purchase a DVD of the commercial with all its alternate endings so I could give my redneck buddies something special for Christmas.

They complained because of them men's reaction afterward. Because the men had to rip the hair off of their chest, as a manly gesture implies that men who kiss men are not as manly. Sometimes it's hard for a straight person to understand, because they are not part of the group. What if someone had to prove they were not, something that you are? Something that you shouldn't need to be ashamed of. How would that make you feel?
And based on the posts in this group, why would gay men not feel like people were out to get them? Or didn't take them just as seriously as everyone else?

they complain because there gay! and because they are not man enough to pull there chest hair off. The gays are hurting this country very badly I mean if you say, look, or do anything to these people even with pure intensions it is a hate crime.
Grow up people and find something better to do than calling us hatters!

I didn't find it that funny myself but I wouldn't go out of my way to complain. Though I did find the implication that gay men are not "manly" a little insulting. We're not all flamers.

LOL, I just watched it and thought it was funny. It's not offensive at all, they're just thinking that it automatically suggests that people are homophobic and that it's wrong to kiss another guy... but who cares... Of course it's different to be gay, but there's nothing wrong with it.. It's like seeing a Horse have sex with a Cow... nothing wrong with it.. but it's different.

Did you bother to read the article about it?
The part after the 'kiss' where they had to pull out chest hair and be 'manly' to 'prove' they weren't (horrors!) gay was the questionable part. That and the anti gay reactions of NFL players shown on video. The world really doesn't need anything else to encourage idiots who hate gay people to condemn them more or devise hate crimes.
