No it made them fear the Hebrew people and their God. They let them go and gave them gold and silver to leave with. They had lost their firstborn and were afraid of what was next. If you know the Bible, they had been through fire falling from heaven, water turned to blood, frogs, bugs, etc. The Egyptians would have given the Hebrew people anything to leave after the firstborn child was killed.
The Old Testament is hard to understand until you realize who God is and what He has done for you. Without God we don't exist. Who are we to question God? Our very breath belongs to God who can take it at any moment. The Bible teaches "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." In the Lord's presence sin cannot stand. It literally burns up. Our Creator is a Most Holy God and in His presence I change. I feel His love in His presence. I know true peace in His presence. His love is far greater than His wrath and we are not to understand all of His ways, because the Bible teaches His ways are higher than our ways. We don't understand everything, but He does.

Actually the killing of the first born to correct the first guy was not "punishment" for the Egyptians, God does not punish people but he did tell the Emperor that if he did not let his people go then he would do a horrible thing, Moses tried to tell the Pharoah that to protect himself he needed to let them go but because of the Pharoahs own hard head he wouldn't. The Egyptians could've chosen to convert but they instead used the Hebrews as slaves and talked lowly of the Hebrew God.

What makes you imagine that they were in discomfort? the little ones? It prefigured his son Jesus. BTW, those slave drivers tortured god's human beings, whipping Their babies etc. They were forced worker's, and none of them ought to get away. It turned right into a slam on the pretend God's. They worshiped frogs. They worshiped the nile river, and they claimed that they themselves were God's quite PHARAOH. The little ones i'm certain did not wade through, It became the grownup egyptians who suffered grief. God is all loving , you do not comprehend what he surely does. If someone were to damage a baby, i comprehend God himself may seem after any toddler from authentic suffering. Crying, does not signify discomfort, trust what you want i comprehend God's procedures, outdoors of the pages of the bible, i became overwhelmed and did not sense it, because i became overwhelmed interior the call of the Christ, i did not even get bruised. The Egyptian little ones little question, being harmless were chance-free adversarial to the discomfort of lack of existence. and could be resurrected.

the egyptians were not Gods chosen people either,, the nation if Israel was his chosen and he didint like them being in bondage.. the egyptians had planty of chances to free the slaves so God didi what it took to get their attention and thus the slaves were freed and they took gold and riches from the palaces of egypt..the egyptians did not fear God and yes ,there was a wider gap as you asked

I think the reason for the killing of the first born in Egypt was to get the Pharaoh to release the Jewish slaves. It was part of the whole "Let my People Go" thing.

What?
The death of the firstborn (Exodus 12:29) was your compassionate and loving gods way to punish the Egyptians, who did not believe in him (according to the story) of which there is no surviving evidence.
It is - like most of the rubbish in the bible - a tribal story in which thier god is shown to be lesser to our god.
Well the egyptians had lots of gods, so hence the plauges.
Plague of Turning the Nile to blood, Exodus 7:14-25. Our god is better than Isis - Egyptian god of the Nile. Better than Khnum - the guardian of the Nile.
Plague of Frogs, Exodus 8:1-5. Our god is better than Heget - goddess of birth who had the head of a frog.
Plague of Gnats, Exodus 8:16-19. Our god was better than Set was the god of the desert.
Flies, Exodus 8:20-32. Our god was better than Uatchit - represented by the fly.
Death of Livestock, Exodus 9:1-7. Our god is better than Hathor, goddess with a cow's head. Our god is better than Apis - the bull god.
Boils, Exodus 9:8-12. Our god is better than Sekmet - goddess that had power over disease. Our god is better than Sunu, the god of pestilence.
Hail, Exodus 9:13-35. Our god is better than Nut, the goddess of the sky.
Locusts, Exodus 10:1-20. Our god is better than Osiris, god of crops.
Darkness, Exodus 10:21-29. Our god is better than Ra, the sun god.
Finaly, like all good fishermans tales, you get the Death of firstborn, Exodus 11:1 - 12:30. Our god is better than 1. Min, god of reproduction. 2. Isis, goddess who protected children. and 3. Pharaoh, who was himself considered a god.
The bible likes to leave the punchline to end in a three.
Three being crucified, three wise men, father son and holy ghost, etc, you think that you would be able to spot the style by now and recognise it is just a story for children.
