hmmmm i dont think he is the best since bradman....since ponting..lara and tendulkar are pretty close in records and performance....but u have to consider sobers....viv richards.....but ponting gets all his runs on big occasions and when it is really needed such as world cup final.....he has played some awesome innings...but u gotta understand ponting is 32 yrs old and between 29-34 is when batsman are at their peak and in top form.....so ponting is going through that phase right now....lara and tendulkar are past that.....so we have to wait and see when ponting retirs how his record ends up.....but right now he is by far the best batsman in the world and no one even comes close to him....if he keeps this trend up for another 3-4 years then he will be the best since bradman!!!

Bradman had a Test average of 99.94
Lara has 2 triple hundreds ,
both above 350 and also got 9 double hundreds
So,in Tests Lara is the best since Bradman
He is also in among the top ODI batsmen
Tendulkar has 41 centuries
and has scored above 14000 runs in ODIs
Currently,Tendulkar is the best in ODIs
He is also among the top Test batsmen.
Ponting will play longer than Lara and Sachin, and it remains
to be seen whether he breaks their records
Whether he breaks or not,he (Ricky Ponting)will be remembered as a
great batsman He has scored 33 Test centuries at an average of 59.29--higher than Lara and Sachin
The way he is playing,it is very much likely, that Ponting will soon own the record for the highest no. of TEST centuries.
Presently it's Sachin with 35 centuries

If not the best, he is certainly more consistent then say Lara and doesnt tour sub continent countries every second week like Tendulkar. Also remember Pontings fielding which is outstanding, very succsesful captain and master of the mind game. Eventually we will have to stop comparing everyone to Bradman. Different eras, different games and a much different world.

Possibly the best of Australian players since Bradman - but world? I'm not so sure - you'd have to consider Tendulkar, Lara, Sobers etc

no way. have you seen the bats these days? edges and mis-hits go for 6. the quality of the bowlers is crap, the pitches are covered, the boundaries are 10 meters in, the pitches are flatter than an airport runway, hell, i could average 20 in test cricket, and i havent played in 10 years. steve waugh was a better batsman, AND ponting is still a failure in India, he averaged 3.4 there in 2001, and missed the 2004 series, conveniently enough.
and lara is better than him too, just from the current crop.
