I asked the same question to my local police after having many problems with teenagers on our estate.

If the camera is a "Static" camera that is focused on your property ( garden, car, etc) then this is allowed.

If children walk into the line of sight of the camera then you will be breaking no law. You must however put a sign up saying you have CCTV. If they come into your garden and you video them then you will not be charged at all.

If you camera isn't a "Static" camera and you follow the children or if you zoom into them you will be breaking the law.

If you use a camcorder instead of CCTV you must not video them no matter what they are up to even if this included them breaking the law.

Hope this helps

Provided that the camera did not intrude on the privacy of any other garden or private area other than your own there is no law against this.It is however, prudent to ask the Chief Supt of Police for your area to vet the siting of your camera.

Yes, I have friends who were being harrassed by a neighbour, and the police recommended they install a cctv camera.

It is wise however to do it in liaison with the police in order that it does not intrude on anyone else's privacy (e.g. looking into the bedroom of the attractive neighbour) which could be deemed illegal!

You can now but I bet soon you will not be allowed. You can't even video your own children these days without some friggin lefties complaining and banning it.
Can you imagine going to Disneyland and you can't use a video on your own kids because other kids are present. FRIGGIN SICK COUNTRY. That's what happened to me at the Wacky Warehouse.....some old baldy b-astard complained, and funny but true.... he was a double of Gary Glitter..... I was fuming.

Yes as long as you dont film anyone's faces, it breaches their basic human rights. Dont film other kids, you will be branded a paedo, make sure you dont catch ethnic minorities because you will be racist, oh, and if one of your kids get's snatched it cant be used as evidence, what about the poor sicko's rights?

Dont install the camera yourself, remember the health and safety laws.

It may depend on the state, but (in Missouri) there is no reasonable expectation of privacy in a public place, so there would be no crime in this case.

yes.
if its a council estate, they may even install it for you if you've had problems with vandals of violence etc...

if you own the property, it is your right to have security.
