Have the flexibility of go and do quests by myself.

My personal favorite is the paladin since you can tank and heal at the same time, i have a paladin and i haven't died in months ^^, Hunters are also good for soloing since its your pet that tanks so you dont get much damage dealt to you, Mages are good for fast killing even though they are weak armoured, Warlocks are powerful and their pets are very useful, rogues are by far the best DPS if played right (my rogue has 55% crit chance ^^)

each and every character can quests by them self. as far as the best they all have their skills that are needed in certain situations. my favorite class was the mage then the priest then the warrior. i have a lvl 52 hunter but got bored and a rogue that i got bored with. warlocks are fun and so are paladins it is just what you prefer. but if you are worried about questing and having a hard time a healing class would help a lot like a priest or a paladin. or a class with a pet like a warlock or hunter.

Druid- personally this is my favorite. You can do damage also being able to heal youself. Finding groups and guilds are also a lot easier since druids are almost always in high demand. My levle 60 druid was able to solo a 59 elite. I'd advise you to start building up the feral tree and then when you get higher switch over to restoration. Try a druid they are a blast!

Almost anything except the priest... but priests are the most desired character to have in a raid since there are so few of them.

for a first timer... i would roll a druid, you can heal, dps and tank... its all around fun!!!!
