OK. If I thought through this correctly, it should be between sun rise and noon.
Waxing crescent is to the left of the sun in the northern hemisphere, so it should rise after the sun. It will set between sunset and midnight.
A first quarter should rise at noon and set at midnight.
Waxing gibbous would rise between noon and midnight.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Addendum to your addendum: New moon will rise and set with the sun because it is on the same side of the earth as the sun!.

By the way, what time the moon rises and sets depends on its phase. Waxing crescent is anything between new moon and first quarter. That spans about 5 or 6 days. The moon rise and set times differ about 50 minutes each day.

It rises one hour to several hours behind the sun and follows the sun across the sky during the day. When the sun sets, and the sky darkens, the moon pops into view in the western sky.
