Do you know your Aussie music?

Two Aussie frontliners of the 60's were Ronnie Burns and Russell Morris. They both had number 1 hits with Smiley and The real Thing respectively.
Another Aussie singer/celebrity of the same era wrote both these songs.
Can you tell me who it was?
