In AIM, you can both save individual messages or enable conversation logging, which saves a copy of every single conversation.
To save a single conversation, just go to File > Save Window or press Ctrl + S.
To enable conversation logging in AIM Triton, go to Edit > Settings. In the search box to the upper left, enter "config" and click on the config:about tab. Scroll down to "loggingLogIMs" and change the value from 0 to 1.
In the newer AIM 6, it is much easier to turn logging on. Select Edit > Settings and click on the IM Logging tab to change your settings. Hopefully this answers your question completely.

ok all you have to do is while you are chatting, keep the IM up and go to file at the top and click save. and you're good =]
