Bird is the greatest forward ever to play the game, and the only forward to have an argument to be called the greatest player ever.
Duncan could very well be the 2nd best forward ever to play the game (I think he probably is).
If you'd ever seen Bird play in his prime, you wouldn't have had to ask this question.

We are talking about two outstanding basketball players. But while Duncan is a big center, great rebounder and scorer..Larry Bird was a pure shooter, and could still rebound well even though many players were taller. Both were true team players and willing to give 100% at all times.
Bird played on some great teams, but Duncan probably has a better all around supporting cast of players.
I don't know which player is better... but I will say, if the game was on the line with five seconds to play... I sure would like Larry Bird to have the ball. My vote goes to Bird.

I gotta agree with rich. It would be like comparing MJ and Wilt Chamberlain. In a one on one match I think I would go with Bird, though. He was a great defender and big enough to mess with Duncan. And I don't think Duncan could defend him on the perimeter.

bird was slow and couldnt jump but was by no means a boring player. he's made plays that will forever live in nba lore. im not saying td isnt a great, great player...but bird was a legend.
the celts didnt just have to contend with the lakers for the championships in the 80's, they had to make it past very tough dr.j led sixer teams to get to the finals.

I gotta agree with you, if they both have 3 championships and Duncan still has plenty of time to win more

Boring if you don't know good hoops. Both are great.
Bird was an incredible passer, had 30 foot range, and overachieved on the boards and in steals. Don't foul him, either.
Duncan is a great no doubt. But Bird is one of the five best ever.
Duncan is top ten.

its like comparing apples and oranges, larry bird was a great outside shooter, and duncan is a great low post offensive player and defensive player.

Nobody could be the class act that Bird was. He will forever be a Celtics legend. In today's NBA, the gangster/hip-hop/look at me crap makes the stars look less of a true role model. Look at Magic. Look at Jordan. Look at Bird. Look at Hakeem. Look at Barkley. Look at Malone. Look at Dominic Wilkins. No one...NO ONE is as respectable today as they were.
