When I try to print a page that is all graphics like a PDF of a flyer or a full page photograph, the prints spooler will get to 1.35 mb and then stop. The printer has 2 mb of ram. When I cancel the print job from the print spooler the page will come out but it will be missing a portion (probably that .65 mb).

Short of buying RAM for this printer is there a way to get it to print these large pages? Should I wait longer (I have waited a maximum of 5 minutes)? Should I switch to PS? Is there a downside to using PS? Could I get it to only spool half the page and then spool the next half? Should I select “Send directly to printer.”?

Any suggestions at all would be appreciated.

I had assumed I was using the newest drivers but I was not. The drivers that come with XP are from 1997. HP updated the drivers in 2002. Now it will get past that 1.35 mb mark, but it still takes a really long time. I guess I am just stuck with that because I do not have a lot of RAM right?

Andrew ... I don't think that going to Post Script will help if the graphics are bit mapped images. Being low on memory for the printer could be the cause.

By the way ... Are you sure you've got the latest drivers? Might that be the issue?

Good luck with it.

The printer must be able to produce the entire contents of the image in its memory. The printer store other features in RAM and probalby does not have enough left to successfully print the image. You can put up to 50MB of RAM in the printer. The cost on an upgrade 16MB (C3146A) is around $27.00 from Crucial.

The RAM will go on the formatter board. The printer ports are connected to the formatter board which is on the right side of the printer. The board may slide out or you may have to take off the side cover.

YEP - slow printing is a result of too little memory. If you are patient, it should all print out.

A 5P is probably using the LPT1 port - much slower than USB or network, so that is another bottleneck.

The PC sends data to the printer [to the max of the memory] and the printer starts putting it on paper; as mwmory is freed, more data goes from PC to printer, until the page is finished.
