My bathroom sink is clogged badly. I have a sink where the stopper doesn't come out, so I can't get the gunk out. What can I do to unclog it?

Pour in some bleach (about a cup) and let it sit for about 5 mins and then run Hot Hot water and that should help.

The stopper is connected to a lever underneath your sink. Put a small pail under the sink pipe, and look on the tube leading down from the sink to the u-shaped trap. On that pipe is a lever, connected to the pipe with a screw. That is the mechanism that causes the stopper to lift when you press down. Unscrew it, and gently ease the rod out of the pipe. The stopper will now lift out of the sink and you can clean off all the hair that is causing your problem. Don't pour any caustic liquids in. Instead, use a stick or hanger to manually clean it out. If it's really clogged, you may have to remove the trap and clean that out too. For that second part, you may need a friend who can help, or a plumber. Once the device is cleaned, you need to re-insert that little rod back into the stopper, which has a hole at the end of it. It's tricky, but you'll get it after a while. Once the lever works again, it's reconnected. Holding it against the pipe, screw the pieces back together hand tight. Try the cold water and the lever. If it lifts OK and the water now drains, tighten it gently with pliers and you are done.

The stopper should come out. You just have to get under the sink first.

First get under the sink. You should see a U-shaped piece of pipe that is called the trap. First put a bucket under the trap to catch any water that might come out when you go to disconnect it. After you disconnect it, make sure you don't lose any of the sealing rings and make sure you note how they fit on. If any of the rings are cracked you probably should go to the hardware store and get some to replace them. Take the trap and try running water through it. If the water doesn't clean it out, take a coat hanger wire and run it through it, then run water through it to clean it out. On your sink, you should probably have a little handle that goes up and down behind the fauce to raise and lower the stopper. Follow the rod from that handle down beneath the sink. It should connect to another rod that goes into a little ball joint not too far above the trap. The rod from the handle should be attached by just a clip. You can slide that clip off if need be. Just make sure before you slide if off that you not how it goes on. Then run your hand up where the rod goes into the pipe just above the trap. There will be a piece that screws off. Unscrew it and pull the ball joint and rod out, noting how it is assembled. After you pull that rod out, then you can remove the stopper and clean it. It will probably have a ton of gunk on it. You might also want to clean the inside of the pipe out. After you've cleaned everything, then all you have to do is reassemble it all and you are done.

Afterwards with the bucket still under the sink, you may want to run some water through the sink to make sure you got everything back together right and sealed properly. Look for any leaks. If you see no leaks, you are fine.

Pour about a cup of plain baking soda into the sink followed by a kettle of boiling water. Leave it for five minutes and then use a plunger until the clog is cleared. You might have to repeat but it has always worked for me.

Use a product like Drano gel and a new clean plunger that combination works every time. Same thing happened to me over the weekend.

The quick and dirty way is to use a plunger, taking care to cover the overflow hole with your finger.
