Your baby can have cheerios when he/she can pinch together their thumb and finger to pick up the cheerio. But I wouldn't start out with cheerios, make sure they are used to eating and swallowing foods. I'd try the gerber puffs first, they dissolve quickly to avoid choking.

The American Academy of Pediatrics doesn't recommend any foods until around six months. Look for readiness signs in your baby. Sitting up, teeth, etc. All these happen around six months but some kiddos are ready a bit earlier and some are ready a bit later. Just watch the baby, not the calendar! When you do decide that you are ready to begin, start with one. See if your baby gets it down easily or gags. If your baby gags, you could try to soften it with breastmilk or formula first. If your baby still gags then he is probably not ready. I've seen babies with no teeth do very well with cheerios and babies with lots of teeth that still are not ready. Good luck!

When your baby is old enough to sit up and have a few teeth in her mouth. She should be able to pick them up on her own. Usually at about age 12 months.

Around nine months is good. My oldest did not have teeth at nine months and did just fine with them.
