My daughter just had her baby, and she is bloodtype o+, one possible choice for father is also 0+, and the other is A+, ( the baby is bloodtype B+) I say the only one possible to be daddy is the A+ father, but my daughter has doubts because the 0+ had a blood transfusion once, and she desperately wants this baby to be the 0+'s kid, this is not possible to my knowledge, since during a transfusion, you receive the same blood type right? or type o , which is universal, but it's possible for A+ to be daddy right?
either way, I know for sure I am grandma, and I would like to know the possibilities. I am buying a paternity test, just dont want to test the wrong one. These things are expensive. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

Any blood type actually can result from any blood type. There are surprises sometimes ! No rules for genetics are set in stone !

Here's your possibilities, barring environmental influence, (the transfusion):

Mother: O+, Father: O+ = O+ or OO
Mother: O+, Father: A+ = A+ or AO

Please take note that according to genetic rules the baby should not have a bloodtype of B+. A and B types are both dominant over O and O carries neither, so there is a discrepancy in someone's blood type.

Someone's blood type is incorrect. Either that or there's a third daddy in the mix.

I did a little research and this is what I found:

Child Blood Type: B
Parent Blood Type: O
Possible Type of Other Parent
AB, B

There has to be someone she's not telling you about if one of the potential fathers is O and the other one is A, because neither one would make a B blood type child.

Transfusions don't change blood types. When a person receives a transfusion they receive the blood type that they are, or O- which is the universal blood type.

The father has either AB or B blood type.

Either there is a mistake about someone's blood type, or neither of these men fathered this child. If you are positive about the blood types of the two men and the baby and your daughter, you need to have a heart to heart talk with your daughter. She wouldn't be the first woman who didn't mention a possible father (thinking that they couldn't POSSIBLY be the father...)

Nope. There are three 4 blood types: A, B, AB, and O Mother is OO Father is BO or BB The ONLY bloodtypes the children could have are BO or OO -- no A

Hmm I don't think so. I think the baby could only be A or O. Is there a third choice?? hmmm well I am glad that you know your the grandma and that your daughter is the mom. Good luck in finding the correct father.

No. B is dominant or co- dominant with A. An O type mother can only have two O alleles. The A father could have either two A alleles or an A and O Allele.

If the father had a B allele...he couldn't be A type...rather AB.

So it is impossible to have a B type child.

Short answer to your question: No.

Longer answer....If mother is O+ that means mother has OO blood. Since O is recessive, if she did have A or B, she would be A or B.

But since father is A+, he is either AA or AO. Therefore, baby from this man can only be AO or OO, which translates to A+ or O+ blood. There is no way for B to enter into the mix here.

She should be able to go to dfs and they will do a paternity test for free, the only problem is that the one that is the father will have to start paying child support, which I guess in the end is not really a bad thing....this happened with my 1st child.....2 guys..didn't know which one was the daddy.....luckily it was the good one!!

You might want to try contacting your local Red Cross...they will have information about blood types for you.
