Would you be opposed to the draft? I would not. I believe that if you want ot be a citizen of the U.S., you should fight for it. You have to serve in the Israeli army to be a citizen.

Kids at my school always bash Bush. Unlike me, they are only influenced by the leftist-media.

Although I personally would love to see the draft, as a former military person however I can't say it would be a benefit.
The all volunteer military has an advantage of the people that are in want to be there. The overall intelligence in the military has risen since the ending of the draft. Also the weapons and equipment has become very technological.
A draft just calls on bodies weather or not they graduated High School. This military requires folks to be highly trained for their jobs. Training time would be significantly higher than it is today. To add in there would be the question of drafting women.
Edit: the military has more degreed folks as a percentage than the civilian sector does.

I think you are right on the money! Kids today, by and large, have no appreciation of the freedoms and rights that they enjoy and take for granted. Maturity levels in 18 to 25 year-olds are at an all time low. Work ethic among that age group is almost non-existant, and most think the world owes them a living.
I also am tired of seeing our country defended by poor kids who have few other options while the kids from upper middle class and wealthy homes skate by and enjoy the freedoms bought with the blood of those whom they consider beneath them.
I also think we have erred in raising the drinking age to 21. We have, in essence, bestowed conditional adulthood on our young adults. We talk out of both sides of our mouths. If you are old enough to go to Afghanistan and die for your country, you are old enough to have a beer on R&R. We can't tell them to act like adults when we still treat them as children.
By the way, thanks for your contribution to the freedom I enjoy. I graduated from high school in 1976 and my class was the third that missed the mandatory draft. A lot of guys I went to school with joined up anyway because they felt it was their duty and because they felt it was a good experience to prepare them for adult life, based upon what they heard from older family members.
It burns my cookies to hear young kids knocking our President and talking about how the war in the Mid-East is wrong. The fact that these wackos attacked us on our own turf, using VISAS we gave them, trained through programs our government provided, seems to escape their understanding. Our fighting forces and support troops everywhere deserve our undying gratitude and respect.
If I sound like a flag-waver, I admit freely and proudly that I am. If females could have gotten into the Marines in 1976, I would have been there. My favorite bumper stickers I've seen lately are....."If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in English, thank a Marine" and "My kid went to Iraq so your kid could party in college". Both brought a tear to my eye. God bless you, and God bless the Marine Corps. They may be the only vestiges of the "real" America that are left!

A draft is unlikely. But if there is one every able bodied American citizen between the ages of 18 and 35 is eligible. If you want run, fine. You're a coward and we don't need cowards in this country.

We would all have to serve in the Israeli army to be a citizen of the US?
I'm not sure I agree with that.

With so many conservatives willing to serve their president, the United States shouldn't have to implement a draft.

I would be..if your not up to fighting then I don't want you to ..Israel has a shortage of people ..your a small country and need every soldier you can get..and also your all mostly Jews and it would make sense to defend your home..America doesn't have those issues to deal with..I would offer people citizenship for service..to America..its better to have those people that want to be soldiers instead of forcing people to fight..

I would be in favor of it, within certain parameters. It is not an absolute requirement in Israel, either. The Hasidim and Arabs are exempt, for example.
