Hearing is what happens when your brain interprets sound waves coming from around you. Your ears pick up these sounds in the air, and then relay the information in a series of electrical impulses to your brain. It's literally all in your head.
Sound, on the other hand, is a series of 'waves' in the air. The air is compressed into a certain shape (frequency) and the higher or lower the frequency, the different sounds you hear.
