A limited reaction occurs when you have 2 reacting substances of different amounts. one will run out before the rest of the other substance can react.

The limiting reagent is the one that is lowest in amount or concentration. This is the chemical in the reaction that runs outfirst. In these problems, an evil teacher or evil prof (mu-wha-ha-ha!) asks you what happens if so much of this reacts with so much of that, or if so many mL of solution. To solve the problem, you have to run the balanced equation out with both (all three? LOL) to find out how to go on.
