Why are Preps so scared of Hot Topic?

I have no idea... I'm a prep, and LOVE going into hot topic. I actually like some of the bands they have t-shirts for in there. So I don't know why anyone's scared of it. I think most people who go in there are really nice.

Well for the same reason that emo/ goth people hate Hollister. The people in those stores are just different than what they're used to and if they say they're scared of it it may just mean they arent into the styles they sell at Hot Topic. Im a prep and I dont particularly like most of the things at Hot Topic but im not scared to go in there or anything. Hope this helps!

Preps tend to be formal and wear shirts and khakis. They don't like dark things. Hot topic sells alot of black stuff. They also thing anything that isn't brand is below them. Ugh...so anoying. They tend to be stuck up a little. not all, but some. They don't know what good stores they are missing out on. Besides, that store isn't their style either.
I am kinda scared of that store though. It is dark and freaks me out. I am all about sunshine and being happy, and they store is the opposite of it.

Because its so different from the preppy stores. I mean Abercrombie and American Eagle and Hollister are all about having fun in the sun, at the beach, or whatever, and Hot Topic is...dark. You can complain that Hollister is dark too but they represent two different things. A beach shack, and...some indie-punk basement. I mean come on...thinking rationally, theres some scary stuff in there. No offense or anything, I mean I understand that we're all different but if you asked any parent they'd probably say thats scary too. My dad thinks its some devil store or something.

Alright, I've never been to Hottopic, because I dont think we have one here. But that doesn't make me scarred of it. So I mean, I just think you're generalizing. Because generally speaking, I'm preppy. But I still love goth and gothic styles. I love going into dark stores and looking at all the stuff they have. It's really cool.

Im a prep, and im not "scared" of hot topic.

I mean I dont shop in there, at all. So I have no reason to go in there, but im not scared of it.

Most people will say "Im scared of hot topic"
There not, they more the less want attention.
So they claim the people and chains scare them.
Dont sweat it. Its not that big of a deal.

i was thinking the same thing! i heard a girl walk past it she was like oohh scary store. i think its because there parents have raised them to stay away from gothics and punks and stuff. the store exterior also is oriented with that. im nor gothic and im no prep but hot topic doesnt scare me.

I am a prep and I go into Hot Topic, but only for there shoe laces! =p lol. but its because the only time I went in there besides for shoelaces...the cashier was like creeping me out, he was like laughing manically..I thinks it because the goths want the preps to be scarred, so stop asking.

I wouldn't technically call myself a prep, But I am an Abercrombie girl. Probably because of all the black and chains and stuff in the window. Hope this helps.

ok when you walk in the first thing you see is darkness which is not attractive, then the music... sorry not a fan, not to mention the guy working the counter looks like the kid in school who wants to kill you if its not the kid who wants to kill you so its a turn off for people you call preps
