Usually a dress would cost much because of the fabric. Or because of the handwork thats been done on it. Now what I've figured out, and I dunno how much it costs to get a dress stictched where you come from. I'm not from the US, but from where I am, getting a dress stitched does NOT cost much AT ALL. Definitely nothing compared to say what a designer prom dress normally would. So I figure, you can buy right on ANY fabric [it just has to be shiny and ofcourse you want it to be comfy, shouldn't be rough]. Then you look at dresses online. Websites like;
prom-dresses.com
or promgirl.net

Than you go to the tailor & ask them to imitate that dress. It's not going to cost too much, and the result would be either the exact same or almost exactly the same dress. Your shoes, hair styling etc would have more effect on your outlook. Get a nice pair of chandelier earrings. Good luck :)

I got my prom dress at JC Penney for just under $100 and NO ONE had the same dress as me! It was beautiful and was that price due to a sale and a coupon I had found (it was originally about $300). Keep your eye out for coupons from now until prom season. You should also try David's Bridal if you have one in your area. I know that they have $99 sales on bridesmaids dresses sometimes and have beautiful dresses as well. Bridal shops in general are good places to look. If a dress is somewhat out of season, but still gorgeous, a bridal shop will try to sell off their sample dresses for a low price. The only catch to those dresses is that there is usually only one and therefore only in one size.

Around here David's Bridal has a sale every year (right about this time of year) every dress is $100. It's absolute madness, but they've got some great dresses. Maybe there's a place near you that does the same?
Otherwise...it's Penney's or Deb. Remember, though...Deb's stuff is fairly low quality.

Look at websites online that advertise cheap dresses and look around. All the below websites sell dresses under $100.00. You can even specify what color and style you want. All I did was go to Google and type in "CHEAP PROM DRESSES" and got hundreds of choices

I have had luck with getting dresses on sale at Dillards. Usually around this time of year. Watch for the sales, and some of the low key dresses are cheaper.
