Let me guess, you seem to think that all those movies and songs you want to download are just "out there" somewhere and the little Internet faeries are just waiting around for YOU to come along and download them.

It's called file sharing for a reason: YOU SHARE!

If you get the files by DOWNLOADING them from someone, then they get it by you UPLOADING.

Now, as to the your computer slowing down, that is a different story. All the other Peers and Seeds you connect to are part of the Swarm - the entire number of other people sharing that file. So basically you are connecting to 20, 50, 200, 1000, whatever number of computers at once.

For most people, this is a bit much for their computers to handle. You can adjust the number of simultaneous connections at once in the preferences for your client and that will help.

(Yeah, right....good luck with that one!!)

You should always upload as this is what keeps the bittorrent community alive. But dont upload so much that it strangles your download speeds. I have mine set at 15kb/s and always upload until I have shared a good ratio.

You will probably find your internet is much slower when downloading as you are using up a lot of your bandwidth by downloading at a high speed. You can also limit your download speeds so it doesn't affect you browsing so much.

All these option can be changed in the settings or options in utorrent.
