I just noticed a very thin filmy layer of what looks like plasit peeling off the inside of my freshwater fish tank.
I am scared to death my fish will eat it or choke. I scooped out a ton but theres still some left.
I have had this tank for over a year.
I dont have anything to put them in so I can clean it. Its really wierd!

First off is it a glass aquarium or plastic? Most have a coating when shipped and chances are you didn't peel it off. Your fish won't eat it and they won't die. This should have been done before you cycled your tank. you don't have to move them, use a razor and scrape it off the tank.

Everything is fine.

If it's a slimy, soft goo like coating it's a bacterial bloom and nothing a good water change won't fix. It will not harm the fish and there is no reason to break the tank down, just scrape off what you can and syphon it out as you change about 50% of the water. Be sure to clean the gravel as you syphon too!

Should fix it right up MM

The only thing that I know which grows on the insides of the tank walls, is Algae. Most fish will eat it. As algae requires both light & phosphate to grow, why not add Phosphate remover to your filter? Fluval do a good one.

It could be from overfeeding. I have had a thin filmy layer in my tank and it was from overfeeding.

If you have a glass tank, I'm not sure what it is.

If you have a plastic tank, you may need a new one
