The US has already started. Unfortunately it hasn't made its way into the common vocabulary of most people and media. The auto industry switched to metric in the 1980's. Product labelling must include metric on groceries and will allow metric only after 2009. NASA has recently announced it will be 100% metric by 2020 including all projects related to the return to the moon. Slowly but surely, the US will go completely metric. It just needs a leader.

Yes. There was reletively no science involved when the English System of measurement was established (or I should say evolved). On the other hand, Science is the underlying principle on which the Systeme International (SI or as you say... "metric system") was founded or evolved. We in America need to stop be so stubborn and euthanize the ailing English System. It will probably take some strong acts of congress to make a real impact though. Do you think that they have the will, ambition, and resolve to do that?

Absolutely. Most of the industrialized nations use metric. With todays international market, engineers are working in other countries. Engineering is also being copied within industries internationally. Using one system cuts back on re-work costs (if streamlining new technology), ensures mistakes are not made from conversions, and of course all engineers have to work with only one standard.

yes, you should i think. in some scientific experiments, this difference causes a lot of problems and because of this, people have to learn both measure systems... i heard that the nasa has lost a satellite sent to the jupiter because some design and performance groups used different measure system in a small calculation :(
