I have a degree in Music Education. My 2-yr provisional license expires in June. I have to take 3 credit hours to renew it. I want to take a class that will count towards my Masters. I don't know whether to go for a Masters in Education degree at the local private college I graduated from or a Masters in Music Education from the big state college. I'd go for the plain Education degree with thoughts that someday I might get my license in Early Childhood as well to have more options. I love music ed but I don't think I'm good enough at my instrument to audition for grad school. Help me think of some pros/cons and other considerations that can guide me to the right path.

Examine your heart and make sure your head comes with it. Think 5 yrs. down the road. Where do you see yourself? I would go for the Masters in Music Education. You are probably better at your instrument than you think--don't worry about that. The Music Education degree would open more doors for you. Any facet of music could be taught. If you want to pursue an Early Childhood degree later, do it...I think your head and heart might ache if you do it now. Good luck!

Unless you plan on remaining in music for the rest of your career, I'd recommend the ME. It seems to me it might give you a bit more latitude. But don't wait. Get one or the other as soon as you can.
