I have a 10 gallon fish tank with 2 guppies, one male, one female, and 3 mollies,2 females and a male. I found one of the female mollies dead the other day and i don't know why. The chemicals in the water were just fine...Also, the other female is always lying on the bottom of the tank, even if the light is on. Are my fish attacking each other? what is going on??

The chances of mollies or guppies attacking each other are minimum. I f you dont have any air pump then they can have died of less amount of oxygen. Or they might have had some kind of disease like ich

It could be a number of things. 1st molly are less hardy than guppy. Have you check your nitrates? Is your water hard (KH 10+), and basic (pH 7.5+)? If not it's less than ideal. If you are only going to have molly, and guppy in the tank salt is a good idea. Stir 3 teaspoons of salt into a cup of tank water, and add to the tank. Do this until you have 1-2 teaspoons of salt in the tank per gallon. (Don't worry both guppy, and molly can live in salt water.) Be sure to limit yourself to molly, guppy, platty, and swordtails. Also when adding new fish float them in their bag for 3-5 minutes then open the bag pour out 1/3 of the water, and in some tank water. Reseal. Float for 3-5 minutes. Repeat x2.

Well, if your water parameters are ok, then I would suspect that the fish were farmed. Because of the intense inbreeding which takes place at these fish farms, the fish are more delicate & fragile than the wild types.
Mollies also like some salt in their water (They have been found in the oceans) Mollies are the first fish to die with fungus, which may not be noticed as it may be an internal infection. Many years ago, I remember Guppies & Mollies could be kept for years with no probs. A sign of the times, perhaps?

It sounds like something is wrong in your tank. I would double check that all the 'chemicals' (parameters-- ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH) are all in balance-- that would be 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and 10-30 nitrates. It sounds like maybe your tank is off a bit. The temperature should be around 75-82 F as well.

They could be stressed, but I don't think the mollies would be the stressed ones, since they are bigger than the guppies.

Other than that, it could be a disease, but with the amount of information given, it's impossible to tell what it could be.

Either way, Good Luck!

Mollies need a slightly brackish tank. Try adding some freshwater aquarium salt.

Also, you should add at least one other female guppy with your male. As there should always be 2 females for every male

Guppies and mollies are peaceful fish(unlike my chiclids), so I don't think they are trying to kill each other. You tank might have been a little overcrowded. If you change he water in the tank often then your fish probably have some type of disease.

You may be frying them,as temp in aquarium rises the oxygen level falls, keep lights off during day and overnight and be sure water is moving at all times.

try doing a 1/4 water change in your tank.
to do this you need a siphon, the water has to come from less than 2" from the bottom next to the gravel. refill.

make sure you have good areation/oxygen -filter or bubble stone. They could have ick (little white dots), or some other disease.
Try some aquarium salt.
