A narcissist will associate with anyone who loves them as much as they love themselves. To say he once loved someone is probably wishful thinking if he is truly narcissistic.

They quite possibly would, but not because they were pining for a love lost, but more likely to allow them to reinforce their sense of self worth. There would be a definite selfish element to it .
