The Jocks are the Scots. Jock is possibly a Scottish variant of Jack adopted by the English as a slang term for people of Scots nationality. (See also Paddy or Mick for the Irish or Taffy for the Welsh).

As for resentment of the English I think this varies both by region and personal inclination. I'm Welsh and I know my history, so I harbor a certain resentment for the way the English have behaved towards my country and culture in the past, but I bear no resentment towards individuals. Certainly some Scottish and Welsh nationalists may harbor deeper feelings than I do and some Irish Catholics may even go so far as to say they hate the English. But then England behaved rather more badly in Ireland than in Scotland or Wales.

For the great majority we all get along just fine, unless we are playing Rugby.

No idea where the name came from, but as an aside, if you're wondering what the English stereotype is north of the border...

It is that the English are arrogant, a bit stupid and stuck in the past.

By stuck in the past, the view is that the English have never gotten over the loss of the Empire. That is why they feel they lack a national identity. It is also why they deeply resent the USA.

Jocks are Scots and as far as I know us English don't have a problem with Scottish people these days, I know for there are a lot of Scottish people in the town where I live and we all get on famously, there is no animosity.
