Well in my experience, 12 year old girls are looking to be more "grown up".
I think a navy blue would be pretty but you say that she hates blue. A chocolate or espresso brown colow is also nice.
My own room is white, which may seem boring, but I went with the theme that the white makes it a blank canvas & the details are what make the room pop. My furniture is painted either a mossy green or white & then distressed. I have lots of candles & have sheep skin rugs on the floor. I have framed black and white photos around the room.

This may sound wild but check out your local vocational high school and see about their art department they can give you great idea about painting a room for your daughter (remember some of them are on your daughter thinking level)

My daughter is 13 and we sponge painted purple over white walls in a semi-circular pattern and it looks tie-dyed..and she loves it, we went a step further and sewed tie-dyed bandannas in different colors together and made curtains...her friends think her room is "the coolest".

I would let her experiement. Try faux finishes. Is she trying to be more adult, something neutral would be good. Is she goth? A really deep purple would be nice rather than black. That is what I have in my bedroom, it's also romatic and works well with my husband's black lights. He's still a kid at heart.

It depends on her personality. If shes sporty paint it green or something. If shes girlie paint it purple or something. So its all up to her personality.
