I live in the Caribbean, so I really don't understand the difference between Polly fill jackets, ski jackets, outwear, light jacket. What's the best jacket if I am moving to NYC in the next weeks? Where do I purchase these items?

I would reccomend a ski jacket, because it snows ALOT in New York. For the summer, a light hoodie would be good. Most of these items can be purchased at American Eagle, Abercrombie, Hollister, and sometimes Aeropostale. If you are a little down on the money right now, you can probably find some styles at Wal-Mart or Goody's. I hope this was useful.

OK...here in NYC people dress for the seasons, not the weather. If it is winter they dress it. You can buy really nice jackets anywhere in NYC, trust me. There are stores EVERYWHERE!!!!!! Polly fill jackets are really warm. Ski jackets aren't as puffy and aren't as warm. Outerwear are just jackets. Light jackets are like denims. They aren't jackets that will keep you warm like pollys and ski jackets. Light jackets are like sweatshirts. When you are inside and cold you grab one and put it on. You wouldn't do that with like a jacket.

Try LLBean.com. They have the warmest clothes and a lot of their items are on clearance! I live in CT and visit VT frequently, I have a PolarFleece Wind Challenger Jacket, it is so thin and flexible. I wear a long sleeve shirt with the jacket and am comfortable in the cold. Don't forget gloves and scarves either!

the best way to dress for the cold is to dress in layers of clothing such as wear an undershirt, then a long sleeve tee shirt, then maybe a sweater or sweatshirt, then maybe a jacket and vest.

It is better that one big thick layer of clothing, plus you can take things off and put them on as your temperature fluctuates.

dont forget hat, ear muffs and gloves fo ryour hands

any store will have these items for you

buy yourself a north face down jacket (they are expensive but trust me it's freeking cold and it will last you quite a while) - this is for the winter

for the spring and fall you're good with polar fleece, leather, denim

for the beginning of the spring and the fall - try a wool coat or a heavier leather or fleece

I am very warm wearing long johns under my clothes. I wear a fleece hat, gloves, scarf, and coat. I have furry boots and wear thermal socks. Remember keeping the top of your head warm keeps you warmer. Fleece can be bought anywhere.
