The best band currently at the peak of its powers in the US might be
The Beatings.
Really, there's not much pure punk out there right now. Other bands that flirt with punk, that are American and that are good:
The Walkmen
The Strokes
The best punk band lately was The Libertines from the UK. Just a tremendous band, but short-lived.
We need more punk bands here. With Bush in office, there's lots of material to write on.
