The original is the only one worth seeing, the rest are all pretty poor.

The very first Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1973) is the best to me. It was very original and most of the newer movies about the story usually branch off the first one like next generation, Texas chainsaw massacre (2004), and the beginning. As the movies got newer of course there was alot more gore but the still made the kills better on the movie.

The original really tapped into societal fears in America - that in the largely ignored and impoverished heartland of America grotesque simulations of the family (like this family of men with Leatherface in his apron like some hideous daughter) inbred, idiotic and amoral are going about the unspeakable unnoticed. Just like the inspiration for this (and many other horrors) Ed Gein did. Its the fear that there is something fundamentally wrong with society and we are afraid to face it until it runs out screaming at us with a chainsaw!

The methods were kinda basic in this film. Standard slaughterhouse techniques. Not up to your inventive standards Mr. Jigsaw. Sir... And by the way I am appreciating and valuing every minute of my life so we don't need to be playing of them games of yours anytime soon..

The original was the best, hands down. The details were superb, and it wasn't all about some braless bimbo getting stabbed while making out without any backstory. It was all a steep downhill from the original.

none of the sequels or remakes capture the spirit of the original. it wasn't just a hack 'em up horror movie as much as it was an exploration into sheer panic. all the sequels sort of made it campy like the friday the 13ths and the remakes just try to gross you out and make you squirm with their graphicness. anyone can do that.

Theaters were I live won't let anybody enter enter 17 unless with an adult. 10 years old is too young and I frown on minors seeing these type of films. You don't have to be his enabler. Let his parents take him. You are the babysitter. Have lunch and go to the museum.....

I found both excellent, but the first has to win...still gives me the creeps. The way the actors play the evil family is manic and the girl who survives is so believable.

I thought that the first was very good. I found the remake a poor imitation and switched it off after a short time.

The original was fantastic. Still scary today. The newer ones and sequals sucked.

Without a doubt. the original wins.
But then again...I can't think of a single movie where the remake is better than the original.
