They are mutants.
I look at the Godsend symbol and I see a clef symbol. I think they are all connected by some auditory signal that triggers the genetic traits to surface.
It is surfacing now because a solar eclipse is on the way and when it arrives the signal will be intense and their powers will reach their full potential.
You think they are powerful now, eimagine their power then.
I figure this has happened before and Linderman may in fact be the only survivor of the last generation of Heroes. This may be like Highlander meet the Matrix.
You could be looking at a fractal theory that ends up in a struggle for power between those looking for control of the world and those accepting chaos as the order of things.
The thing about the sun is it tends to distort audio frequencies. Block out the sun and the signal will be clear.
I also think these powers drive you insane. I think they must all be there at the end to perpetuate the cycle of immortality and Sylar is doing a good job of consolidating them into one person but like Smith in the Matrix he will sooner or later have to kill Claire and the strange thing about her power is that like Neo if he consumes her power her power will concume him as it is there solely to preserve it's host. Assuming they are the last two standing after Sylar kills Linderman, like Smith killed the Oracle, the result will be Claire assuming immortality and freeing the powers of the rest to find new hosts in other bodies.
Of course, I am just speculating but you know it sounds good.
If you watched the show Threshold you will see where I think they got the frequency or auditory signal from.

well claire had her power from birth... otherwise she wouldn't have survived the fire but maybe they can only control their powers once they get older. or maybe it's like on a need to use basis? and since the world is in danger their powers are being brought to the surface?
