Right. I am a teacher who needs inspiration. World Book Day (1st march) at our school requires us all to dress up as a literary character. I am running out of ideas, as I have done this for a few years now. Need to think of something quick! Help!!!

Ah you have all been so good! Have Fairy ideas flying round my head now! Thanks! Ooh, and I am a lady teacher teaching primary 4 in Scotland if you are wondering. I have been Mrs Fox (Fantastic Mr Fox) and lots of Harry Potter characters, and Alice in Wonderland

You didn't say for what grades. You also don't give your gender, if it matters.

Miss Viola Swamp from Miss Nelson is easy -- It's basically a witch costume.

Alice in Wonderland has a certain costume, easily recognizable. So do Eloise and Emily Elizabeth from the Clifford books.

A generic victorian costume would work for many characters: Emma, something Jane Austen, Little Women-ish.

Quasimodo? Too not-politically-correct?
Robin Hood. Gueniviere. (Lady Godiva?)
Huck Finn/Tom Sawyer
Sherlock Holmes
Sam Spade (the classic private eye/trench coat/fedora
Scarlett O'Hara
Laura Ingalls Wilder
Amelia Bedelia

Have fun. I'd love to know what you pick.

Can you tell us some of characters you dressed up as in past years, just to avoid repetition?

What about a Jane Austen character? Empire waist gowns are fun, or top hats, depending on which gender you want to represent.

Captain Ahab comes to mind, though the ivory peg leg might not be very practical.

Aslan from The Chronicles of Narnia would be interesting, if you can find a lion costume.

One of the elves, like Arwen or Legolas, from The Lord of the Rings would be easily recognizable. Gandalf would be good, too.

Good luck! Let us know what you pick.

Becaue i am a Harry Potter Dork i would suggest one of the student sfrom the book, You can use your College Graduation gown (if you still have it and its black) as the school robe and a stick for a wand. If you really want to go all out you can buy the scarves. Just a thought.

Other than that just htink of your favorite books and who would be the most fun person to be. Think about what your students are reading becuase i think they would really get a kick out of it if they saw you as a familiar character, it might engage them more in the spirit of the day.

Its like Halloween... this is your chance to be outragous...take advantage of it!
