I am having the same issue - I am in my 21st week. My breasts keep getting bigger and someone suggested just getting a nursing bra since I have to keep buying new bras to keep up with my increased chest size (so far have gone from an A to a D and even growing out of that!!) But I think it is silly at this point to spend the money on a nursing bra if I will grow out of it before I am ready to nurse. Especially since they say the biggest size increase is right around when you give birth (I'm in trouble!).

I do know that you should have one BEFORE going to the hospital, so maybe by week 34 or so, just to be safe and prepared for an early delivery. I'll probably get one around then, just to have, and then gague whether it still fits as time goes on, and maybe get another as the due date gets closer, and then get the majority AFTER I give birth.

Another word of advice I was given - bring not only the nursing bra to the hospital, but also nursing pads to put into the bra, because apparently you will leak even in your sleep!

Good luck!

I would recommend buying 1 or 2 of the sleeping nursing bras (they look kind of like sports bras but then pull open like a wrap shirt) - the ones without a cup. Get your nursing bras with cups after your milk settles down since you really have no way of predicting what size you will be and it is really important that you are as comfortable as possible.

NURSING BRAS

Everybody told me to wait wait wait cause you're boobs get so big and blah blah blah...

Well they were right and wrong...You do get really big so you can't realy gauge a size just yet...but by the time you can...it's REALLY REALLY hard to go out and try on bras and do all that with an infant, leaking boobs and surgical staples!...

I found a really excellent bra at motherhood...it's only 18 dollars and its the best bra I've EVER had nursing or not. I bought them two sizes bigger than normal and I've been ok...sometimes they are tight and sometimes they're just fine...it just depends on how much milk I have at the moment...but these bras are great, supportive and flexible...Check out motherhood. (you can buy them online...but it really is better if you go in...different cuts fit differently regardless of the size)

NURSING SHIRTS
Personally...I have been shopping for the "perfect" nursing shirt for about 6 months...and I have yet to find it. What I have done instead is I purchaced a bunch of tank tops and I just wear those around the house for "easy access" and when we're out and about I usually express anyway...trying to nurse in public is a little dicey anyway...so if it were me...I'd save my money and not invest in "nursing shirts"

Good Luck Mama and Congratulations

i would hit walmart and pick up one for now, and save the tags for daddy to match up after baby is born so he gets the right one- we can't expect a guy to buy the right nursing bra the first time out!!!
While you are there, pick up some of the nice, cheap, comfy tanks with the shelf bra and adjustable straps. NOT the specifically for nursing tanks!!! Buy one or two "nursing" tops to go out in if you feel the need!! You'll spend less than $7 apiece at walmart for the regular ones, and its just as well for at home, or even out if you can find one of those sweatshirts that zip down from the top (then you can unzip, lift your breast up and over the tank, latch baby on and no belly skin shows- Yeah, i'm more concerned about that than a nip flash anyday of the week)

Good luck, happy shopping, and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!!!

buy one, just one, now or as close to your due date as you are comfortable. You'll need it for right after the baby is born, and yes it will be harder to go shopping for a new born. But your breasts my totally change size and shape after the baby is born and you have begun breastfeeding. Buy a few more after the baby is born when you have a better idea of what you'll be dealing with. And make sure the bra is stretchy so it can accomodate engorgement. Also, there's a good chance you'll be wearing a bra to bed for awhile so make sure you get something comfy. The best for me was a nursing cami with a shelf bra, it was perfect for wearing to bed and worked as a tank top for layering outfits. I'd wear low cut tees with the tank top underneath so I just had to pull down my shirt a little and unhook the bra. I never really bought any nursing shirts other than that. Just wear shirts that you can unbutton from the bottom or pull up easily. Worst thing I ever did to myself when I was breastfeeding my son was wear a dress, oh man you shoulda seen that, had to wiggle completely out of the top part and pull it down to my waist and throw a blanket over me. that was somethin.
Good luck!

You should buy one nursing bra until after you have your baby. Buy 2 sizes bigger than you are at week 39....Like if your 36 C...buy a 38 DD! Your breast will swell so bad due to your milk coming in! Just buy one bra until you can get to the maternity store to ensure the correct fit! You would hate to buy all these bras that do not fit! The nursing shirt should be bought after your baby is born too!

You won't end up using them as much as you would think. You can get like two nursing bras for cheap at WalMart or Target for now and I would hold off on the shirts completely. your breasts will be larger than before though so grab a few tops from Old Navy in a size larger than you would normally wear.

I would wait on the nursing bra until your milk actually comes in so you know how big you will be. Bring a nursing shirt with you to the hospital but don't buy too many, you never know if breastfeeding will work out.......Hope this helps.....

I have a 6 month old. I bought 3.... Here's what I learned. I bought one for 32 weeks. One the next size up for 40 weeks and one the next size up for when my mild came in. They were all the same style. I started wearing the first one at 32 weeks. As I grew, I went to the next one. Make sure you take one to the hospital. And then when your milk comes in you will have all 3. Some days my breast were larger than others. Then as you slow down on breast feeding your breast will go back down in size and you can use those same bras to gradually move down with the flow of your own body.

i am 17 weeks and have already bought 1 nursing bra in my regular size. i would say to just buy 1 or 2 at the moment at your regular size and if your breast increase in size after baby is born, then go up a size. good luck
