The best way to research this is go to the website of the state you're interested in camping in and looking at their state parks listings. For example, with my state, California, you would go to http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=slv8-msgr&p=california%20state%20parks. Most state websites will have a list of parks along the beach that have overnight camping and what fees are involved, if any.

Their are camping areas on beaches all over the place on the west coast.
