I hate it when you've set the volume for a show on TV and one of those really LOUD commercials comes on and practically knocks you over. Why don't they put some kind of a cap on that? Who would control that and why haven't they? It's absurd!! It doesn't make me want to buy the product, it makes me want to boycott it!

There is a cap. The FCC doesn't allow overmodulation of the broadcast signal, and it doesn't happen. TV stations (and cable companies) put limiters on their audio signals to prevent overmodulation.

OK, but it still SOUNDS louder, I know. That's because the advertisers COMPRESS the audio, so that it just sounds louder. It is still legal, but annoying.

Sorry, but that's the way it is.

If they bug you, don't buy their product.

It's a ploy to get your attention since we have Tivo and video tape, we as a Nation rarely sit through commercials anymore. The only thing I can suggest is the mute button (that's what I do). You can also show your displeasure by "voting" with your wallet. Don't buy their crap.

GREAT QUESTION.......I really dislike having to change the volume so I don't get blown out of my livingroom. It's even more so it seems during the wee hours of the morning...
