A career is something your going to do to make a living for an extended period of time.

You would typically go to college for the training you need to pursue a career - like medicine or law or even professional sports.

A job is similar and could be your career. For example you might work in a restaurant while going to law school. Your career is law, but your job is in the restaurant.

At the same time you could parlay that restaurant job into a career as a waiter/waitress for example.

A career provides a good salary with growth potential (both in terms of skills, salary, and new opportunities). People tend to have passion about their careers. A career can be expanded upon by leaving one company and moving to another. Often the job change progresses a person in one way or another. There is a linkage between one job an another.
