I think he knows and I think it shows. Even the prophets (Elijah) knew they were unpopular and it wore them out. Having a multitude, or even a majority against you is not easy to handle. Elijah was called the "troubler of Israel" by the opinion leaders; did that make him bad or wrong? NO.

I'm not saying Bush is a prophet or that he is annointed, just that being popular is not the be-all and end-all of life. At a minimum, it is not an indicator that what one is doing is right. In fact, the scriptures tell you to beware when all men speak well of you.

On the other hand, lack of popularity is no indicator of goodness or righteousness either.

He knows he is not popular. He tries not to care, but being human, it affects him. Not like it would affect Clinton, who could not BEAR to be unpopular, but it still is affecting him. He does not have his former swagger and probably will not regain it during his presidency.

I know it would affect me. I can't imagine how anyone can do that job on a daily basis. To his credit, Clinton did it for 8 years, Bush has done it for only 6 (so far).

I think he is very aware of how unpopular he is, but I don't think it has affected his confidence when speaking. As a Democrat, I think he's an idiot, but he has strong convictions and believes he is right, which you have to respect. The president should do what he feels right, not what is popular. The problem is that Bush is guided by advisors who have their own motives, and he is too weak-willed and uneducated to challenge them. He does not have the capacity to think thru and analyze complex issues. That's not his fault - god did not give him that ability. It's our own fault for electing such a simple minded man.

what does it matter? He can't run for re-election and all the rats on his ship will bail as the time nears! Kind of like Arnold was out of town when Bush came to California.

I think he is intensely aware of how unpopular he is. But since he doesn't have to get re-elected, I don't think he really cares. He's going to do what he thinks is right, even if he's wrong, no matter what anyone else thinks.

HE IS UN POPULAR WITH SOME AMERICANS AND POPULAR WITH OTHERS. THE POLLS CAN BE TWISTED TO MEAN ANYTHING THE POLL TAKERS WANT THEM TO MEAN. I CAN TAKE A POLL THAT SAY'S BUSH HAS A 100% APPROVAL RATING. THE FACT THAT THEIR ARE A BUNCH OF PROPAGANDIST SPEWING HATE DOES NOT AFFECT ANYONE. STATUS QUO NO MATTER WHAT THE DEMS TRY TO DO.

We are a Republic not a Democracy. His popularity is not
as important as him making the right decisions.

Yes, he stated that he doesn't care if the only two people who support him are his wife and his dog. I'm sure that's great news for the Republican Party

He isn't Bill Clinton. He leads America by what he feels is right and not by polls.
